Each year, Inman recognizes innovation in the real estate industry with its Inman Innovation Awards. In 2020, Inman focused on special acts of service and leadership by industry figures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Neil Walter, CEO was recognized as one of 10 industry innovators for ERA Brokers Consolidated’s efforts to send 12,000 flowers to health care workers in New York and New Jersey hospital on Nurses Day, May 6. The flowers were donated by Milgro Nursery and delivered by Jim Castimore of CASCO Salt.
Neil Walter commented “As the hardest hit area in the United States, we wanted to show our support for New York City and Northern New Jersey. While there was much we could not do to help, we felt if we could spread hope and joy and let individuals know we were thinking about them, it might make a small difference.”
The idea originated when friends at Milgro launched an initiative to distribute flowers on local UPS trucks and at community businesses. The thought was that if they could distribute tens of thousands locally, then we should be able to figure out how to fill a tractor trailer full of flowers and send them to New York. After a month of planning, the flowers arrived in New Jersey, where they were unloaded and then loaded onto a smaller truck for local delivery by CASCO Salt.
Jim Castimore added, “It was amazing to see all of the nurses, doctors, and medical staff at these hospitals. They are doing amazing work. It was an honor to make these deliveries.”
New York Health + Hospitals was the primary recipient where flowers were delivered to Elmhurst, Harlem, Jacobi, Lincoln, Metropolitan, and North Central Bronx. Additional flowers were delivered to New Jersey locations including Newton Memorial Hospital, Andover Nursing Home, Valley View Nursing Home, Lakeland Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Sparta Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Andover Volunteer Fire Department, Andover Township Police Department.
