Every year, twice a year, Pay away the layaway; a nonprofit organization, visits cities all over the United States during both Back to School and the Holiday season and surprises families by paying off the remaining balance of their layaway. On Tuesday November 28, 2017 the nonprofit organization visited a North Las Vegas Kmart to pay off the outstanding layaway balances for 15 local families. 

Kendra Wilkinson, a reality television star who helped sponsor the event told reporters “The holidays are about being part of something like this and helping bring smiles on people’s faces. That’s what I’m here for, and that’s what I’m teaching my kids.”

Wilkinson called out shoppers’ names then met them with a shopping cart full of gifts. News photographers crowded around to capture photos and video. 

Through the donations the organization receives from their “Layaway Angels” all over the world, they are able to make a huge difference in the lives of families and put a big smile on the faces of their children. 

ERA Agent Chris Lindh, who is a “Layaway Angel” participated in the event and was overjoyed with the success of it. Chris and founder of the Pay away the layaway, Lee Karchawer, are childhood friends who started 4th grade together at a new school, and have been friends ever since. Chris says “It was a huge honor to be a part of something so moving and inspiring. To see the smiles of the families we’ve helped was joyous.” 

Pay Away the Layaway has paid off layaways in over 40 states now and over $150k worth of layaways to date.
