On Monday February 19, during IBC’s first day of classes and events, “Rise!” a panel discussion moderated by Christy Torian, featured 3 powerhouse leaders in real estate. Fafie Moore, Janice Miller, and Cheryl Taylor highlighted moments of overcoming challenges, making bold choices and implementing forward-looking changes along their path to nationally-recognized success.  They offered both practical and aspirational takeaways to participants who attended the course.

On January 2, 2018, the ERA Brokers Richfield team put together a blood drive in conjunction with the Red Cross.

Angie Jensen, ERA Brokers Office Manager said “We had a great turnout.  Special thanks to community members who came out to support the blood drive. This is a great cause and we had a lot of fun supporting the Red Cross today.”

Brayden Gardner, Broker for our ERA Richfield office says “ We love being involved in the local Richfield community.  We have a few events each year where we try and give back. This one was a great success.”

Because of the success from the January event, the Richfield office is looking forward to hosting a second blood drive on May 2, 2018 expecting an even larger turnout.

Friday December 15th, during ERA St. George’s annual Christmas party, Liisa Frei, ERA agent and Youth Futures advocate, explained the need for homeless youth shelters.

Youth Futures’ purpose is to provide unaccompanied, runaway and homeless youth with a safe and nurturing environment where they can develop the needed skills to become active, healthy, successful members of our future world. Their overarching goal is to eliminate the need for another youth to sleep on the streets. They employ a “Continuum of Care” cycle framework to meet the needs of homeless youth in a trauma-informed, youth-centered model within the program areas of overnight shelter, daytime drop-in services and street outreach.

Liisa was contacted by the director of Youth Futures and was asked to help connect them with people who would be interested in helping them get up and running in St George. One of the first people Liisa reached out to was Thayne Houston, Principal Broker at ERA Brokers Consolidated.  ERA offered space for Youth Futures to do volunteer training meetings.  Liisa also sponsored a fundraiser for Youth Futures with the agents at ERA Brokers.

With a room full of giving hearts, and in just 2 short hours Friday evening, ERA Brokers agents donated over $730 to support the homeless youth in the St. George area. Liisa commented: “It’s an honor to be a part of a great organization that helps provide a service for our community. We are just getting Youth Futures started in the area and all donations are appreciated.”

Liisa became aware of the youth homeless population while following the great work being done by Youth Futures in Ogden. This was the first youth overnight shelter specifically for youth to open in the state. Before Youth Futures opened there was no over-night shelter that could legally accommodate an unaccompanied minor.  Liisa was excited when Youth Futures asked her to help bring their program to St George.

Girls on the Run is one of the most respected physical activity-based positive youth development programs for girls in the United States. Girls on the Run International was founded in 1996 by former educator, counselor, and Ironman triathlete, Molly Barker. Today, there are over 220 councils in North America, and Southern Utah is one of the newest council additions. Since its inception, the organization has engaged over 1 million girls and 300,000+ volunteers.

Michelle says: “As a child, I was surrounded by so many confident girls, but as we all got older, I started to hear “I can’t do it, I’m not good enough.” Girls were starting to lose faith in themselves and believed they were not capable of completing tasks. I wanted to be a part of an organization that would change that mentality in young girls, especially for my children. That’s when I found Girls on the Run.”

Girls on the Run Southern Utah is in its fifth season. They have provided programs at several elementary and intermediate schools and Washington City Community Center. Their goal is to expand their program to all elementary school across Washington and Iron Counties.

The Girls on the Run Southern Utah program meets twice per week for ten weeks in elementary schools, parks, and community centers around Southern Utah. Each 90-minute session is led by specially trained volunteer coaches. Dash lesson is designed to help girls overcome issues such as: body image, negative self-talk, resisting peer pressure, gratitude, gossip, nutrition, substance abuse, making healthy decisions, and contributing to the community.

Running is woven into our program to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health. At the end of the ten-week program, the girls participate with their families and friends in a celebratory non-competitive Girls on the Run 5k event.
